BREEAM Synnovis Hub Excellent Certification

Published: 9th April 2026 - All information correct at time of publication.

We are delighted to announce that the Synnovis hub has officially achieved BREEAM Excellent Certification!

Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is one the longest running assessors for sustainability. By achieving a BREEAM Excellent certification, Synnovis is showing it’s committed to our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.

An excellent rating indicates that the building has gone well beyond just general compliance and is delivering a consistently strong performance across the assessment areas. The process of receiving a BREEAM certification follows five steps which includes an assessment and a quality assurance check.

Each of these categories addresses important factors, including carbon emissions reduction, design durability and resilience, adaption to climate change, and biodiversity protection. The categories of assessment are:

  • Management
  • Water
  • Energy
  • Transport
  • Health & wellbeing
  • Resources
  • Resilience
  • Land use & ecology
  • Pollution
  • Materials
  • Waste
  • Innovation

Originating in the UK in the 1990’s, BREEAM is now an internationally recognised standard for building sustainability and quality. Some notable buildings that have also achieved an excellent rating are University of Manchester’s Nancy Rothwell Building, the Oslo Emergency Hospital at Gardermoen, and the Nobu Hotel in Barcelona.

BREEAM certification is not mandatory, but it is becoming increasingly popular as sustainability goals become more prevalent and the aim of achieving Net Zero becomes more urgent.

Well done to the entire team involved in making this happen!
